Rubies are a type of corundum like Sapphires. They are very durable, and their colour is vibrant and vivid. High-quality rubies make for the most expensive gems, and some have even cost over $100,000 per carat. To grade rubies, you must know a lot about them. Synthetic ruby gemstones can be created through flame fusion or the Czochralski process among other methods. Rubies are a highly revered gemstone, being of the same or sometimes even greater value as Diamonds and Sapphires. The prices of the gemstones depend on origin, colour, size, and clarity ranging from $100 to $15,000 per carat. Myanmar or Burmese stones will be around $300 to $3,000 per carat. Polished stones are more expensive than raw Ruby gemstones. It has a Mohs hardness of 9.
